Youth Congress Symbolically Declares Rahul Gandhi as Parashurama in Ritual at Varanasi Riverfront
Youth Congress conducted a symbolic ceremony on the Varanasi riverfront portraying Rahul Gandhi as Parashurama using ritual anointing with milk and Ganges water. The event included chants and a ceremonial sweet cake cutting, sparking strong political reactions and debates over secularism and symbolism.
Dressed in white kurtas and saffron scarves, members of the organization carried out a ritual anointing ceremony using milk and water from the Ganges. The participants chanted slogans as part of the demonstration, while also cutting a sweet spherical Indian dessert cake shaped in the form of traditional round sweets near prominent temple spires located in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency.
The organizers framed the event as a symbolic portrayal of Rahul Gandhi as a defender of righteousness and the Constitution against perceived injustice, drawing parallels with the mythological figure of Parashurama. The messaging was aimed at presenting a political narrative rooted in cultural symbolism and ideological positioning.
The event immediately sparked widespread reaction across social media platforms and political circles. Critics condemned the act as excessive devotion and accused the organizers of inconsistency with the principles of a secular political framework. Supporters, however, defended the demonstration as a tribute to Rahul Gandhi’s stance in parliamentary discourse and his opposition narrative.
As of now, neither Rahul Gandhi nor senior leadership of the concerned political party has issued any official response regarding the symbolic ceremony or the controversy surrounding it.
The incident adds another layer to the ongoing political polarization, highlighting the increasing use of religious and mythological symbolism in contemporary political expression within highly sensitive public spaces.
